How Does Globalization Affect Society?

Globalization affects society by letting cultures spread around the world. This has mainly had positive effects on communities. But it has affected some negatively.

Have you ever heard of the phrase “this land was built by immigrants”?

It means that nations like the US and Canada were created by many, many cultures and traditions.

Growing up as an Asian-Canadian, I was exposed to multiple cultures.

I practiced Vietnamese traditions at home, western traditions at school and at McDonald’s, and a multitude of other ones when I went to my friends’ houses (I had a diverse group of friends).

And I was able to experience all of these different traditions in one place.

This is how globalization and society are related (well, one connection anyway). Continue reading “How Does Globalization Affect Society?”

How Are Globalization and Technology Interconnected?

Smartphones, the internet, nuclear, and oppression are all terms that can be used to describe the interconnection between globalization and technology. Can you see how they are related?

In the late 90s, my family and I moved away from our hometown.

We moved to a whole different province, actually. I had just hit my teen years and had to leave all of my friends, friends who I knew for many years.

But even though we were over 1000 km apart, we were still able to keep in touch, thanks to technology.

There was this app called ICQ back then (all my 90s kids know) that I used to chat with all of my faraway friends.

We also talked on the phone too.

But if it weren’t for all this new and innovative tech, we wouldn’t have been able to do this; we wouldn’t be able to easily communicate with each other.

I would have had to send handwritten letters just to see if my friend watched the latest wrestling match.

Nowadays, technology allows you to get in contact with anyone in the world.

And not just via text. Continue reading “How Are Globalization and Technology Interconnected?”

What is the Relationship Between Globalization and the Environment?

So, how are globalization and the environment related?

Well, just think about climate change. Does it affect just one region or does it affect the entire planet?

Please tell me you selected the latter choice.

Since climate change (or GLOBAL warming) is happening all around the world, when one person releases carbon into the atmosphere, it affects everyone and everything on the planet (although it’ll be a tiny effect).

If an entire region or country does it, then there will be much harsher effects.

This is why a lot of people are against the coal and oil industries.

They believe that these two are some of the biggest polluters in the world, and only a handful of countries actually benefit from them economically. Continue reading “What is the Relationship Between Globalization and the Environment?”

What is the Relationship between Globalization and the Economy?

So, how are globalization and the economy related? Well, they are connected by many forces –business, healthcare, and education, to name a few.

It was 1946 and WWII had just ended.

The General Assembly of the United Nations all agreed to develop the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (or UNICEF).

The fund was created to help children living in countries that were negatively affected by the war.

They provided food, medicine, and other necessities for these children who would not have gotten it otherwise.

Currently, UNICEF acts as an organization that helps children in troubled nations.

They collect donations from people around the globe and provide things such as clean water, medicine, food, and education. They also use celebrities to help promote their organization.

Additionally, each year on Halloween (in Canada and the US anyway), they’ll get trick-or-treaters to ask for donations as they go house-to-house asking for candy.

This is an example of how the global economy is working together to help the less fortunate. Continue reading “What is the Relationship between Globalization and the Economy?”

How are Globalization and Politics Related?

Globalization and politics are related in many ways. Whenever any country does anything internationally, that’s globalization.

When you think of politics, you’re probably just thinking of your own city’s or country’s government.

You, for the most part, probably view politics through a national lens (what is my government doing for me and the citizens of this country).

However, politics isn’t just local –it expands past the borders and over the seas.

When your government sends the military to another nation, whether it be to fight a war, resolve conflict, or for peacemaking while carrying big, automatic machine guns, that’s international (or global) politics.

If the government deals with refugees and asylum seekers, that’s international politics.

When your government sets up protocols to protect the country against terrorists, that’s international politics.

All of the mentioned political events deal with global issues.

And because of these (and events like them), politics is globalized. Continue reading “How are Globalization and Politics Related?”

What is Copywriting? And Some Rules to Follow

Copywriting is basically advertisement writing. But some copy suck and some don’t. So what’s the difference?

Copywriting is, essentially, the act of writing advertisements. The goal of it is to create more awareness around a product or a service or an issue. It is also meant to persuade potential customers to take a certain action.

If you’ve read a product review, chances are there was a suggestion or button somewhere on that post that encouraged you to buy the product.

If there was, then that article was a piece of copy.

If you’ve visited a website and the page you were on talked about the company and its services and had customer testimonials, there’s a good chance there’s a button at the bottom of the page that asked you to get in contact with them.

This is a call-to-action. And that page that you were on is another example of a piece of copy. Continue reading “What is Copywriting? And Some Rules to Follow”

What is Social Stratification?

Social stratification is the study of class, status, and power in society.

If a city can be separated by wealthy people and poor people, and the wealthy have more power than the poor, then that society has social stratification. If, in a specific nation, more status comes with more wealth, then that society too, has stratification.

But what’s the issue with this?

The main problem with social stratification is that it creates inequality. The wealthy have power and status, but the poor don’t. In addition to that, it will be very difficult for the poor to reach a position of power. Continue reading “What is Social Stratification?”
